Posted by Nelson MCBS on December 2, 2013

Paul Walker

1 December 2013: US actor Paul Walker, who starred in the Fast & Furious series of action films, has been killed in a car crash in California.
Walker, 40, was a passenger in a Porsche sports car driven by a friend – who also died – when it crashed north of Los Angeles.
Walker was said to be attending a charity event at the time.
He starred in all but one of the films in the Fast & Furious franchise, the sixth of which opened in May.

Paul Walker: Actor

Paul William Walker IV was an American actor. He became famous in 1999 after his role in the hit film Varsity Blues, but later garnered fame as Brian O’Conner in The Fast and the Furious film series. Wikipedia

Paul William Walker IV[1]

(September 12, 1973 – November 30, 2013) was an American actor. He became famous in 1999 after his role in the hit film Varsity Blues, but later garnered fame as Brian O’Conner in The Fast and the Furious film series. His other films include Eight Below, Into the Blue, She’s All That, and Takers. He appeared on the National Geographic Channel series Expedition Great White.

Early life

Walker, the son of Cheryl (née Crabtree), a fashion model, and Paul William Walker III, a sewer contractor, was born in Glendale, California, and raised in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles County.[2][3] He was of Irish, English, and German descent.[4] His paternal grandfather was professional boxer “Irish Billy Walker”.[5] Walker was raised as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.[2] He graduated from Village Christian School.[6][7] After high school, he attended several community colleges, majoring in marine biology.[6]

Walker began his small screen career as a toddler, when he starred in a television commercial for Pampers. He began modeling at the age of two and began working on television shows in 1985, with roles in shows such as Highway to Heaven, Who’s the Boss?, The Young and the Restless, and Touched by an Angel. That same year, he starred in a commercial for Showbiz Pizza.[8] Walker’s film career began in 1986, with the horror/comedy film Monster in the Closet. He and his sister Ashlie were contestants on a 1988 episode of the game show I’m Telling!; they finished in second place. He continued with roles in several other movies without much success. In 1998, Walker made his feature film debut in the comedy Meet the Deedles, which finally gained him fame. This subsequently led to supporting roles in the movies Pleasantville (1998), Varsity Blues (1999), She’s All That (1999), and The Skulls (2000).

In 2001, Walker’s breakthrough role arrived when he starred opposite actor Vin Diesel in the successful action film The Fast and the Furious. The film established Walker as a notable film star and leading man and led to his reprisal of the role in the 2003 sequel 2 Fast 2 Furious. He continued his career with leading roles in films such as Joy Ride (2001), Into the Blue (2005), and Timeline (2003); he had a supporting role in Clint Eastwood‘s adaptation of Flags of Our Fathers (2006).

Walker then starred in the crime thriller Running Scared and Walt Disney PicturesEight Below, both released in 2006. Eight Below garnered critical-acclaim and opened in first place at the box office, grossing over US$20 million during its first weekend.[9] During the filming of Running Scared, director Wayne Kramer stated that “[Walker] is that guy on some level”[10] when comparing Walker with his character in the movie, Joey Gazelle. Kramer continued on to say that he “loved working with [Walker] because as a director he’s completely supportive of my vision of what the film is. And even better, he’s completely game for it.”[10]

Walker starred in the independent film The Lazarus Project, which was released on DVD on October 21, 2008. He subsequently returned to The Fast and the Furious franchise, reprising his role in Fast & Furious, which was released on April 3, 2009.[11] Walker then appeared in the crime drama Takers, which began filming in early September 2008 and was released in August 2010.[12]

The Coty Prestige fragrance brand Davidoff Cool Water for Men announced in January 2011 that Walker was going to be the new face of the brand as of July 2011.[13] He reprised his role in the fifth installment of The Fast and the Furious series, Fast Five (2011), and again in Fast & Furious 6 (2013). Upcoming films in which Walker starred or appeared due for release are Hours set for release in December 2013, and Brick Mansions, set for release in May 2014. He had been slated to return for the seventh installment Fast and Furious 7 slated for release in July 2014. He was also slated he was to play Agent 47 in the Hitman film adaptation.[14]

Personal life

Walker lived in Santa Barbara with his dogs.[2][15] He and Rebecca McBrain, a one-time girlfriend,[16] had a daughter[17] who lived with her mother in Hawaii for 13 years and then moved to California to live with Walker in 2011.[18] He held a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Ricardo “Franjinha” Miller at Paragon Jiu-Jitsu.[19]

Walker’s first passion was marine biology; he joined the Board of Directors of The Billfish Foundation in 2006.[20] He fulfilled a lifelong dream by starring in a National Geographic Channel series Expedition Great White, which premiered in June 2010.[21][22] He spent 11 days as part of the crew, catching and tagging 7 great white sharks off the coast of Mexico. The expedition, led by Chris Fischer, founder and CEO of Fischer Productions, along with Captain Brett McBride and Dr. Michael Domeier of the Marine Conservation Science Institute took measurements, gathered DNA samples, and fastened real-time satellite tags to the great white sharks. This allowed Dr. Domeier to study migratory patterns especially those associated with mating and birthing over a 5-year period of time.[23]

In March 2010, Walker went to Constitución, Chile to offer his help and support to the people injured in the 8.8 magnitude earthquake that struck on February 27. He flew with his humanitarian aid team, REACH OUT Worldwide, to Haiti to lend a helping hand to the 2010 Haiti earthquake victims.[24]

Paul Walker drove a Nissan Skyline in 2 Fast 2 Furious.

An avid car enthusiast, he competed in the Redline Time Attack racing series in which he raced a M3 E92 and was on the AE Performance Team. His car was sponsored by Etnies, Brembo Brakes, Ohlins, Volk, OS Giken, Hankook, Gintani, and Reach Out Worldwide.[25] Walker had been preparing for an auto show prior to his death.[26]

On November 30, 2013, at approximately 3:30 p.m. PST, Walker and Roger Rodas,[27] age 38, left an event for Walker’s charity Reach Out Worldwide for victims of Typhoon Haiyan.[28][29] Shortly after leaving in Rodas’ red 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, the driver lost control and crashed into a light pole and tree in Valencia, Santa Clarita, California, and the vehicle burst into flames.[30][28][31][32]

Rodas was believed to be driving the car.[33] The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department declared the two dead at the scene.[30][34] Walker’s publicist, Ame van Iden, confirmed early reports of his death.[28] Rodas became friends with Walker after meeting at a race track. Rodas became Walker’s financial advisor in 2007 and helped to establish Reach Out Worldwide.[35] Rodas was the CEO of Always Evolving, a Valencia performance shop for high-end vehicles.[36] The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office stated that speed was a factor in the crash. Burned rubber and doughnut marks were found in figure 8 patterns on the road near the crash site, but it was not clear to officials if these were related to the crash.[28] Fast & Furious co-stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson and Sung Kang posted tributes to Walker on social media.[37]

Dr Devi Shetty, Hrudayalaya (Heart Specialist) Bangalore

A chat with Dr.Devi Shetty, Narayana Hrudayalaya(Heart Specialist) Bangalore was arranged by WIPRO for its employees The transcript of the chat is given below. Useful for everyone.

Q: What are the thumb rules for a layman to take care of his heart?
1. Diet – Less of carbohydrate, more of protein, less oil
2. Exercise – Half an hour’s walk, at least five days a week; avoid lifts and avoid sitting for a longtime
3. Quit smoking
4. Control weight
5. Control blood pressure and sugar
Q: Is eating fish good for the heart ?
Ans: YesQ: It’s still a grave shock to hear that some apparently healthy person
gets a cardiac arrest. How do we understand it in perspective?Ans: This is called silent attack; that is why we recommend everyone past the age of 30 to undergo routine health checkups.

Q: Are heart diseases hereditary?
Ans: Yes

Q: What are the ways in which the heart is stressed? What practices do you suggest to de-stress?

Ans: Change your attitude towards life. Do not look for perfection in everything in life.Q: Is walking better than jogging or is more intensive exercise required to keep a healthy heart?
Ans: Walking is better than jogging since jogging leads to early fatigue and injury to jointsQ: You have done so much for the poor and needy. What has inspired you to do so?
Ans: Mother Theresa , who was my patient.Q: Can people with low blood pressure suffer heart diseases?

Ans: Extremely rare.

Q: Does cholesterol accumulates right from an early age
(I’m currently only 22) or do you have to worry about it only after you are above 30 years of age?

Ans: Cholesterol accumulates from childhood.
Q: How do irregular eating habits affect the heart ?
Ans: You tend to eat junk food when the habits are irregular and your body’s enzyme release for digestion gets confused.

Q: What are the first aid steps to be taken on a heart attack?

Ans: Help the person into a sleeping position , place an aspirin tablet under the tongue with a sorbitrate tablet if available, and rush him to a coronary care unit since the maximum casualty takes place within the first hour.

Q: How do you differentiate between pain caused by a heart attack and that caused due to gastric trouble?

Ans: Extremely difficult without ECG.

Q: What is the main cause of a steep increase in heart problems amongst youngsters? I see people of about 30-40 yrs of age having heart attacks and serious heart problems.

Ans: Increased awareness has increased incidents. Also, sedentary lifestyles, smoking, junk food, lack of exercise in a country where people are genetically three times more vulnerable for heart attacks than Europeans and Americans.

Q: Is it possible for a person to have BP outside the normal range of 120/80 and yet be perfectly healthy?

Ans: Yes.

Q: Marriages within close relatives can lead to heart problems for the child. Is it true?

Ans : Yes, co-sanguinity leads to congenital abnormalities and you may not have a software engineer as a child

Q: Many of us have an irregular daily routine and many a times we have to stay late nights in office. Does this affect our heart ? What precautions would you recommend?

Ans : When you are young, nature protects you against all these irregularities. However, as you grow older, respect the biological clock.

Q: Will taking anti-hypertensive drugs cause some other complications (short / long term)?

Ans : Yes, most drugs have some side effects. However, modern anti-hypertensive drugs are extremely safe.

Q: Will consuming more coffee/tea lead to heart attacks?

Ans : No.
