HMHS 2020: Year in Rewind

Hungry Mind, Hungry Stomach

It’s the last day of 2020 — and what a year it’s been. We’re so thankful for everyone who has stuck around with us, through thick and thin. We would not be here without your support, your encouragement and all the love you’ve given us about our recipes, our reviews and more.

Hungry Mind, Hungry Stomach has been two years strong, but this was actually our first year in which we decided to start the blog. Since then, it’s been the most amazing journey with all our friends, from near and afar. We decided to do our own little Rewind, to look back at all that’s been accomplished this year.

Putting together this Rewind was a lovely reminder of just how beautiful this community is. Whether you’re here from Facebook, Instagram, or WordPress, we’re shocked to see there’s so many of you! We love it! And the fact that our…

Snow diary

MY Magazine

It’s winter..
Snow writes her dairy
In the book of earth
Flakes by flakes
On and on
She writes
Catching the cold
Inside her crystal soul
Freeze to her beauty
Showing white as her purity
Dangling on branches
Piling on the rooftops
Staying by the pane
Painting the town dreamy
The land transformed into Disney
Making the season joly holy
She fulfills her duty
Before spring clinging in…

How positive are you?
Do you know how much the snow cherish the humanity?
Do you see the negative side only?
The good things so many the snow does.
Why does the snow storm memory remain deeper in our mind?
Our brains remember the negative more than positive one?

Mind control point,

After the snow storm, learn to love the snow by skiing on it, is how to overcome the bad memory…

Humans have no strength against the nature’s phenomenon.

But have…

Jesus on the Sabbath – Part 10 – A Simple Witness

Considering the Bible

jesus-the-grain-fieldRecently I penned a series of post on the Ten Commandments and as I was writing it, found that the Sabbath day was the only commandment not reapplied  to believers in the New Testament.

In writing that series of posts, I was reminded that the Sabbath day was one of the main irritants between the Lord Jesus and the Pharisees.

In our last post, we were looking at the miracle of the blind man seeing.  In this post, the message of the healing is not lost on the Jewish leadership.  Things are heating up between the Pharisees and the Lord.

First off, let’s see how this seeing man handles himself with his neighbors

Discussions and Questions

8 The neighbors and those who had seen him before as a beggar were saying, “Is this not the man who used to sit and beg?”

This formerly blind man was well known in…

“OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH GOD”

TRUMPETER'S CALL

Joshua 1:9
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of good courage; be not afraid, neither e8c77f623e590fafd6ff439668bd8aef8174501386468450621.jpgbe thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

PRE-AMBLE by Robert

The following is a quote from the recently published article, “DO YOU FEAR YOUR JOURNEY’S END? “Here are moments those walking in the light of Yeshua as believers and followers might, at times, forget. Our fleshly vessel is our “Holy Temple,” which the Lord has placed the upkeep, care and responsibility, upon us, to maintain as such. 1Corinthians3:16:Know ye not that ye are the temple of God and that the Spirit (o. pneuma) of God dwells in you?

OPENING STATEMENT by Robert

GOD has promised to be with Joshua, but Joshua must strive to act as one in partnership with God. My journey shows me, reliance on the old…

Ten Books on my Re-Read list for 2021

Bookishloom

Somewhere in our hearts, we always wish to re-read some of the best reads from the past. The TBR, however, keeps hoarding new releases and new recommendations. This means the re-read list is ignored and pushed much lower on the reading rack.

So, my New Year resolution…if it had to be anything then it surely is to ‘Re-Read’ the best from the past.

My ‘re-read’ list comes from two categories – the books I read while growing up, which were mostly English Classics, and the recent reads that I absolutely adore!

Here I go…

1. Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy

Anna Karenina’ by Leo Tolstoy was on my intimidating long books to-read list and I was glad to read it. I think this was one of the best books I read in my life!

Anna Karenina is an iconic book, a fast read, and a beautiful story about…

Gratitude For Grace Upon Grace

Musings of a Warrior of Life and Prayer.

Gratefulness for God’s blessings and graces upon graces makes us experience His love. His love is light that shatters the darkness of evil and sin in our life. His light gives hope, joy, peace and love.

Waking up each day is a blessing. Everything that transpires during the day is additional blessing. Showers of graces upon graces! Everyday we receive simple graces that we fail to notice and acknowledge. The year comes to a close and a new year awaits to usher new beginnings, new challenges. An opportunity to do the right thing and renew family ties and relationships. Let us also take this time to count our blessings; especially those we failed to recognize and appreciate.

2020 brought many frustrations and interrupted many plans in our lives- cancelled trips, a debut party that did not push through, a postponed wedding, or a long planned major purchase put on hold…

Proactively preparing for what could be the worst month of your life

Matthew Ruttan

“Proactively Preparing” – audio version

January is bad—even in a good year. This year is potentially worse. Okay, probably.

We are battling the dreaded “second wave” of the COVID-19 pandemic. Christmas is in the rear view mirror, bills have piled up, the belt buckle is tighter than we’d like to admit—oh, and its cold outside… and seasonal affective disorder is real… and we just entered another lockdown. #GoodTimes

Things that gave us joy like gathering with friends and family, singing alongside our brothers and sisters during worship, or trips to the arena, are now muted or cancelled.

All of this is why I think you should be proactive—not reactive—about your well-being for January.

From what I’ve seen, most people wait until they are very unhealthy before they take steps to be healthy again. But imagine a well that has been dug in the middle of a field. Based on my…

Holiday thoughts, part II: Jewish v. Not

The Skeptic's Kaddish 🇮🇱

Tonight is New Year’s Eve so before I get into the substance of this post, I would like to wish all of you a Happy and Healthy New Year! 🥳

So… New Year’s…

Growing up in America, this was not a holiday that I marked in any way, shape or form. Truly, I did not understand what all the fuss was about. Why was the transition between December 31st and January 1st any more significant than that between any two other calendar days?

The funny thing is that New Year’s Eve had once been a very big deal to both of my parents. You see, my mother had grown up in Lithuania, and my father had grown up in Russia, both under Soviet reign, both celebrating Novy God (Новый Год), which designates the Russian New Year’s celebration. Today, this holiday remains extremely popular in countries that were formerly…
