Prayer for the election of the Pope

Father Most Holy, Our God and King,

Protect Your Church in this time of transition.

Guide the Cardinals in their sacred duty.

Grant them Wisdom and Courage,

Hope and Charity, and the Faith they need to discern Your Holy Will.

Creator of all that was, is, reveal Your will to the College of Cardinals. Open their hearts to Your inspirations. Open our hearts to receive, with faith and obedience, the one whom You will raise up to sit on the Chair of Saint Peter.

Lord Jesus Christ, the High and Eternal Priest, the same yesterday and today and forever! You built your Church on the foundation of the Apostles and you constantly send their successors like sheep among wolves to teach all nations, feeding lost humanity with your Word and strengthening it with the sacraments.

We therefore humbly ask you, our Good Shepherd, to lead the cardinals in the unity of the Father and the Holy Spirit – the people of the cenacle of our time, when during the conclave they will elect a new Pope.

May the Holy Father, awaited by us, be your voice for the world, calling for a courageous profession of faith and conduct according to God’s laws; may he be a joyful herald of the good news of a happy life, which can only be found in God’s heart. We will follow him faithfully to the Heavenly Homeland, to the house of your Father.

May he be a man of deepest compassion,

a man of profound faith and hope, a man whose charity shines forth, permeating the darkness of this world with the light of Christ.

You are God Most High, the God of the living and the dead, the Great I AM, the Alpha and the Omega,

Eternal Being and Source of all that is.

May Your holy will be done,
