A Catholic Meditation on the Lord’s Prayer

“Our Father, who art in heaven”

I do not stand before a distant God, but before a Father.

Through Christ, I am adopted, loved, and known.

Heaven is not far away — it begins wherever Your children trust You.

“Hallowed be Thy name”

Let my life make Your name holy.

May my words, choices, and hidden thoughts give You honor.

Purify my heart so that Your holiness may shine through me.

“Thy kingdom come”

Reign first within me, Lord.

Drive out the kingdoms of pride, fear, and selfish desire.

Let Your justice, mercy, and peace take root in my soul and in the world.

“Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven”

Teach me the obedience of Christ.

Not my plans, but Your wisdom.

Not my control, but Your providence — trusted even when I do not understand.

“Give us this day our daily bread”

You provide what I truly need.

Feed my body, but more importantly my soul.

In the Eucharist, You become my Bread — strength for today, not tomorrow.

“And forgive us our trespasses”

I stand before You as one who needs mercy.

Heal the wounds caused by my sin.

Let Your forgiveness recreate my heart.

“As we forgive those who trespass against us”

Free me from the prison of resentment.

Teach me to forgive as Christ forgave from the Cross.

Let mercy triumph over justice within me.

“And lead us not into temptation”

Stay close to me in weakness.

When trials come, give me vigilance and humility.

Without You, I fall; with You, I stand.

“But deliver us from evil.”

Rescue me from sin, despair, and the powers that separate me from You.

Be my shield, my refuge, and my victory.

“Amen.”

So be it.

I entrust my life completely into Your hands.
