She was young.
She was defenseless.
She was ordered to deny Christ.
Prisca refused.
And the Church now calls her Saint Prisca.
She lived in Rome during the early centuries of the Church, when to be a Christian was to risk everything.
Faith was forbidden.
Worship was dangerous.
Loyalty to Christ could cost your life.
Prisca was still very young.
But her faith was already unshakable.
According to tradition, she was arrested for being a Christian and brought before Roman authorities.
They gave her a choice:
Offer sacrifice to the gods.
Or die.
Prisca refused.
She would not betray Christ.
So the torture began.
She was beaten.
Dragged.
Subjected to cruel punishments meant to break her resolve.
At one point, she was thrown into an arena to be killed by a lion.
But something unexpected happened.
The animal did not attack.
Instead, it approached her and lay quietly at her feet.
Even creation seemed to recognize her innocence.
Furious, her persecutors chose a more certain method.
Prisca was executed — giving her life rather than denying her Lord.
The young girl.
The powerless Christian.
The martyr who stood firm in the heart of Rome.
Saint Prisca teaches us:
Faith is not measured by age.
Courage does not require strength.
And loyalty to Christ is worth everything.
If you feel small…
If your beliefs are challenged…
If standing firm feels impossible…
Remember the young Roman girl who faced an empire — and did not bend.
Saint Prisca, pray for us. ![]()
