For 50+ Years She Ate Nothing but the Eucharist

Venerable Marthe Robin was a French mystic, stigmatist, and foundress of the Foyers de Charité who lived an astonishing life of total union with Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.

In her youth, Marthe contracted a severe case of encephalitis. By 1928, it had completely paralyzed her swallowing muscles. From that point until her death in 1981 — over 53 years — it became physically impossible for her to swallow even a single drop of water or any food.

Despite this, Marthe remained highly alert, mentally sharp, and extraordinarily active. She maintained an enormous global correspondence, counseled thousands of visitors who came to her darkened room in her family’s farmhouse in Châteauneuf-de-Galaure, and helped establish over 60 Foyers de Charité (homes of charity and formation) around the world.

Her only sustenance? The Holy Eucharist, which she received once a week for over 50 years. Multiple witnesses, including priests and doctors, documented that the consecrated Host would miraculously fly from the priest’s fingers and dissolve instantly on her tongue—without any need for swallowing. She lived nourished solely by Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament for half a century.

Marthe also bore the stigmata and relived the Passion of Christ every Friday. She often said of the Eucharist: “Jesus is my everything—the one who heals, consoles, sustains, and blesses.”

This profound testimony reminds us of the life-giving power of the Real Presence. Even when the body fails completely, Jesus can sustain the soul and even the body in ways that defy medical explanation

Venerable Marthe Robin, Pray for us! 🙏
