New Year Prayer of Hope and Rest in God

God our Father, Lord of time and eternity, as a new year begins I lift my heart to You in trust and hope. “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11). You are the God “who makes all things new” (cf. 2 Corinthians 5:17), and in Christ You invite me to leave behind what is sinful and walk in newness of life.

Lord Jesus, at the doorway of this year, I place in Your Sacred Heart all my days: my work and rest, my health and sickness, my joys and sorrows, my plans and fears. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight” (Proverbs 3:5). Teach me to trust more in Your wisdom than in my own calculations; to seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness in every decision and relationship.

Holy Spirit, Soul of my soul, You who renew the face of the earth, renew my heart at the dawn of this year. “Our heart is restless until it rests in You,” cried Your servant St Augustine; awaken in me that holy restlessness which seeks only Your will and Your glory. Free me from the weight of past sins, from discouragement and fear, and fill me with the courage and consolation of Your presence.

Eternal God, “teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12). May this year not be lost in distractions but offered as a living sacrifice of love, united to the Cross and Resurrection of Your Son. With Mary, Mother of God, and all the saints, I entrust every hour of this new year to Your providence, confident that “he who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:23). Amen.
