BASIC CATHOLIC PRAYERS

1. Sign of the Gross (Short)

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

2. Sign of the Cross (Big)

In the sign of the Holy Cross + protect us from our enemies + O Lord, in the Name of the Father + and of the son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

3. Our Father

Our Father in Heaven, Holy be your Name, your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth, as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Do not bring us to the test, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

4. Hail Mary

Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with you; Blessed are you among Women, and Blessed is the fruit of your Womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at
the hour of our death. Amen.

5. Glory be to the Father

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

6. The Angelus

The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary; and She conceived by the Holy Spirit.

Behold the Handmaid of the Lord; be it done unto me according to your word.

9. The Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty Creator of Heaven and earth, I believe in Jesus Christ, His only son Our Lord who was conceived, by the power of the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

10. Prayer before Confession

I Confess to Almighty God, to blessed Mary ever Virgin, to blessed Michael the Archangel, to blessed John the Baptist, to the holy apostles Peter, Paul and Thomas, and to all the saints and to you father that I have sinned exceedingly, in thought, word and deed, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault (strike the breast 3 times).

Therefore I beseech the blessed Mary ever Virgin, blessed Michael the Archangel, blessed John the Baptist, the holy apostles Peter, Paul and Thomas, and all the saints and to you father, to pray to the Lord, our God for me, Amen

11. Act of Contrition

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended you and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of heaven, and the pains of hell, but most of all because I offended you my God, who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of your grace, to confess my sins, to do penance and to amend my life, Amen.

12. O Most Gracious Virgin Mary

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary that never was it known, that anyone, who fled to your protection implored your help and sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of Virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O! Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy
hear and answer me. Amen.

13. Hail Holy Queen

Hail, Holy Queen, mother of mercy; hail our life, our sweetness and our hope! To you we cry poor banished children of Eve; to you we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy towards us; and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus. O! clement, O! loving, O! sweet Virgin Mary. Amen

14. The Five Requirements to make a Good Confession

I must
1) Recollect my sins orderly
2) Repent on them sincerely
3) Resolve not to repeat
4) Tell the priest all my sins, especially the grave ones
5) Do the penance the priest gives me

15. The Three requirements for the worthy Reception of Holy Communion

1) To have the gift of grace
2) One hour fasting before the reception of Holy Communion
3) Proper preparation and devotion.

16. The Ten Commandments

1) I am the Lord your God; you shall have no other Gods before me.
2) You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
3) Remember the Sabath day and keep it holy.
4) Honor your father and your mother.
5) You shall not kill.
