Six things every Catholic should know about the Eucharist.
First, during consecration, the bread and wine of the Eucharist becomes the true transubstantiated body and blood of Christ. It is not a mere symbol.
Second, the Eucharist is the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Christ Jesus.
Third, the Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life. The reception of Holy Communion is the center of our Catholic faith.
Fourth, communion is by definition to be in union with God and with His Church, to be one in faith.
Fifth, to receive Holy Communion, a person must be a practicing Catholic in the state of grace.
Sixth, only an ordained Catholic priest, in the person of Jesus Christ, the High Priest, and through the power of Holy Spirit can transform bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ.
