ഭൂമിയിലുള്ള ഒരോ മനുഷ്യനും ഒരു കാവൽമാലാഖയുണ്ട്. അത് അവനെ നിരീക്ഷിച്ചു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുകയും, രക്ഷ കൈവശപ്പെടുത്തുവാൻ സഹായിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. ജനിക്കുന്ന നിമിഷം മുതൽ ഈ മാലാഖ തന്റെ ദൗത്യം ആരംഭിക്കുന്നു; ജനനത്തിന് തൊട്ടുമുമ്പ് വരെ, അമ്മയുടെ കാവൽമാലാഖയുടെ സംരക്ഷണത്തിലായിരിക്കും. ഈ സംരംക്ഷണം ജീവിതകാലം മുഴുവൻ നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്നു; ഈ ലോകത്തിലെ പരിശീലനകാലം, അതായത് മരിക്കുന്ന നിമിഷം വരെ മാത്രമേ ഈ സംരക്ഷണം നിലനിൽക്കുകയുള്ളു. ശേഷം, ‘ശുദ്ധീകരണസ്ഥലം’ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ‘പറുദീസാ’ വരെ അത് നമ്മുടെ ആത്മാവിനോടൊത്ത് സഞ്ചരിക്കുന്നു; അങ്ങനെ സ്വർഗ്ഗരാജ്യത്തിൽ നമ്മുടെ കൂട്ടവകാശിയായിത്തീരുന്നു.
ദൈവം അയക്കുന്ന വേലക്കാരും ദൂതന്മാരുമാണ് മാലാഖമാർ. ‘മാലാഖ’ എന്നാൽ ഗ്രീക്ക് ഭാഷയിൽ ‘ദൂത് വാഹകൻ’ എന്നാണർത്ഥം. കണ്ണുകൾ കൊണ്ട് കാണാൻ സാധിക്കുകയില്ലങ്കിലും, നമ്മുടെ ഇഹലോകയാത്രയിൽ അവർ നമ്മെ സഹായിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. നമ്മുടെ ജോലിയിലും പഠനത്തിലും സഹായിച്ചും അപകടങ്ങളിൽ പെടുമ്പോൾ സംരക്ഷിച്ചും, പരീക്ഷണങ്ങളിൽ അകപ്പെടുമ്പോൾ തുണച്ചും, ശാരീരിക അപകടങ്ങളിൽ പെടുമ്പോൾ സംരക്ഷിച്ചും അവര്‍ നമ്മുക്ക് ഒപ്പമുണ്ട്. ഓരോ ആത്മാവിനും ഓരോ വ്യക്തിപരമായ കാവൽമാലാഖയെ ഏർപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ടന്ന ധാരണ സഭ പണ്ടു മുതലേ അംഗീകരിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള ഒരു വിശ്വാസസത്യമാണ്.
“ഈ ചെറിയവരിൽ ആരേയും നിന്ദിക്കാതിരിക്കുവാൻ സൂക്ഷിച്ചു കൊള്ളുക. സ്വർഗ്ഗത്തിൽ അവരുടെ ദൂതന്മാർ നിന്റെ സ്വർഗ്ഗസ്ഥനായ പിതാവിന്റെ മുഖം എപ്പോഴും ദർശിച്ചു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുകയാണന്ന് ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോട് പറയുന്നു” (മത്തായി 18:10) എന്ന ഭാഗം ധ്യാനിക്കാം. ”വിശുദ്ധഗ്രന്ഥത്തിൽ സർവ്വസാധാരണമായി പറയുന്ന ‘മാലാഖമാര്‍’ ശരീരമില്ലാത്ത ആത്മീയ ജീവികളുടെ സാന്നിദ്ധ്യം ഒരു വിശ്വാസ സത്യമായിട്ട്‘ കത്തോലിക്ക സഭയുടെ മതബോധന ഗ്രന്ഥത്തിൽ പ്രസ്താവിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.
“ജനനം മുതൽ മരണം വരെ, മാലാഖമാരുടെ, പ്രത്യേകിച്ചും, കാവൽ മാലാഖയുടെ സംരക്ഷണത്തിന്റേയും മദ്ധ്യസ്ഥാപേക്ഷയുടേയും വലയത്തിനുള്ളിലാണ് മനുഷ്യർ ജീവിക്കുന്നത്” (328). “ജീവനിലേക്ക് നയിക്കുവാൻ, ഓരോ വിശ്വാസിയുടേയും സമീപത്ത്, ഇടയനായും രക്ഷകനായും ഒരു മാലാഖ നിലയുറപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്” (336). സഹായകരായ മാലാഖമാരെ നമുക്കായി അയച്ചതിന് സഭ ദൈവത്തിന് ഉപകാര സ്തോത്രം ചെയ്യുന്നു; പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് പ്രധാന ദൂതന്മാരായ വിശുദ്ധ മിഖായേലിന്റേയും വിശുദ്ധ ഗബ്രിയേലിന്റേയും, വിശുദ്ധ റാഫേലിന്റേയും തിരുന്നാളായ സെപ്റ്റംബർ 29-നും കാവല്‍ മാലാഖമാരുടെ തിരുന്നാളായ ഇന്നും. ഇന്നത്തെ ഈ തിരുന്നാൾ ആദ്യമായി ആഘോഷിച്ചത്, പതിനാറാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ സ്പെയിനിൽ മാത്രമായിരുന്നു. 1670-ലാണ് ഇത് ആഗോളസഭയിലേക്ക് വ്യാപിപ്പിച്ചത്.
വിശുദ്ധ ബെർണാർഡ് ഇപ്രകാരമാണ് പറയുന്നത്, “നിന്റെ എല്ലാ വഴികളിലും മാലാഖമാർ നിനക്ക് അകമ്പടി സേവിക്കുന്നുണ്ടെന്ന് മനസ്സിലാക്കി, ഓരോ പ്രവർത്തിയും ചെയ്യേണ്ടതു പോലെ ചെയ്യാൻ നീ ജാഗരൂകനായിരിക്കുക; എന്തെന്നാൽ ആ ദൗത്യത്തിൽ അവർ കൂട്ടിച്ചേർക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുകയാണ്. എവിടെ വസിച്ചാലും, ഏത് മുക്കിലും മൂലയിലും നീ അകപ്പെട്ടാലും, നിന്റെ കാവൽ മാലാഖയെ ആദരവോടെ ഓർക്കുക. അവൻ ഉണ്ടോ എന്ന് നീ സംശയിക്കുന്നുണ്ടോ? കാരണം നിനക്ക് അവനെ കാണാൻ പറ്റുന്നില്ലല്ലോ? കേവലം കാഴ്ചക്കും അപ്പുറത്ത് നിലനിൽപ്പ് ഉണ്ടെന്ന യാഥാർത്ഥ്യം ഓർക്കുക”.
സഹോദരരെ, ഏറ്റവും ലാളനാപൂർണ്ണമായ സ്നേഹത്തോടെ നാം ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മാലാഖമാരെ സ്നേഹിക്കണം; കാരണം ഒരുനാൾ അവർ നമ്മുടെ സ്വർഗ്ഗീയ കൂട്ടവകാശികൾ ആകുന്നവരാണ്. പിതാവ് ഇപ്പോൾ അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ഈ ആത്മാക്കൾ, വരും കാലം നമ്മുടെ സംരക്ഷകരും വഴികാട്ടികളും ആകാൻ പോകുന്നവരാണ്. ഇപ്രകാരമുള്ള അംഗരക്ഷകർ ഉള്ളപ്പോൾ, നാം എന്തിനെ ഭയക്കണം? അവരെ ആർക്കും തോൽപ്പിക്കാനോ, വഞ്ചിക്കാനോ സാദ്ധ്യമല്ല; എല്ലാ വഴികളിലും നമ്മെ കാത്തു രക്ഷിക്കുന്ന അവർക്ക് ഒരു വിധത്തിലും വഴിതെറ്റി പോകുകയുമില്ല. അവർ വിശ്വസ്തരാണ്, അവർ ബുദ്ധിശാലികളാണ്, അവർ ശക്തരാണ്. അപ്പോൾ, പിന്നെ നാം എന്തിന് പേടിച്ച് വിറക്കണം?
നാം അവരുടെ പിന്നാലെ നടന്നാൽ മാത്രം മതി, അവരോട് ചേർന്ന് നിന്നാൽ മാത്രം മതി, അപ്പോൾ നാം അത്യുന്നതന്റെ ആലയത്തിൽ സുഖമായി വസിക്കും. ആകയാൽ, അടിക്കടിയുള്ള അഗ്നിപരീക്ഷ നിന്നെ തൊടാൻ തുടങ്ങുംമ്പോഴും, ഹൃദയഭേദകമായ ദു:ഖം നിന്റെ മേൽ വീഴാൻ തുടങ്ങുമ്പോഴും, സഹായകനായ അവനെ പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചുണർത്തുക! ഉച്ചത്തിൽ വിളിച്ച് കേണപേക്ഷിക്കുക.

The Story of the Feast of the Guardian Angels
Perhaps no aspect of Catholic piety is as comforting to parents as the belief that an angel protects their little ones from dangers real and imagined. Yet guardian angels are not only for children. Their role is to represent individuals before God, to watch over them always, to aid their prayer, and to present their souls to God at death.
The concept of an angel assigned to guide and nurture each human being is a development of Catholic doctrine and piety based on Scripture but not directly drawn from it. Jesus’ words in Matthew 18:10 best support the belief: “See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.”
Devotion to the angels began to develop with the birth of the monastic tradition. Saint Benedict gave it impetus and Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, the great 12th-century reformer, was such an eloquent spokesman for the guardian angels that angelic devotion assumed its current form in his day.
A feast in honor of the guardian angels was first observed in the 16th century. In 1615, Pope Paul V added it to the Roman calendar.
Devotion to the angels is, at base, an expression of faith in God’s enduring love and providential care extended to each person day in and day out.
”Dear Angel at my side,
my good and loyal friend,
you have been with me since the moment I was born.
You are my own personal guardian,
given me by God as my guide and protector,
and you will stay with me till I die.
He who created you and me
gave me to you as your particular charge.
You assisted in great joy at my baptism,
when I became part of the Mystical Body of Christ,
and was made a member of the household of God
and an heir of heaven.
You saw the dangers that beset my path,
and, if I sinned,
it was in spite of you.
You envied me when Christ came to me in Holy Communion.
Even though you probably were there
among the angels that adored Him
the night that He was born,
you have not been able to receive Him as I can.
O, help me to appreciate these gifts!
Help me to realize, as you do,
with every fiber of my being,
that to serve Christ is to be a King!
Help me steadfastly to avoid evil
and do good and always guard my soul from sin.
Protect me as well from physical evils
as I go about my daily work.
You will be with me all my life,
and at the hour of my death.
Help me to face death bravely, patiently,
with great love of God,
knowing that it is only through death
that I can come to Him in heaven!
Then, come with me to my Judge,
and when the hour of my salvation comes,
take me home to my Father, God.
