Mathew Maleparampil was born on 6th May 1938 at Ezhachery in the diocese of Pala. His parents were Abraham and Annamma Maleparampil. He was baptized on 13th May 1938 at St Mary’s Church Anthiyalam. He had his education at St. John the Baptist Anthiyalam, St. Mathew’s and St. Augustine’s Ramapuram. After successfully completing the High School, he joined the MCBS on 16th June 1957. He was among the first batch of seminarians at the Holy Spirit Minor Seminary, Kaduvakulam. Following the completion of the first year in the Minor Seminary, he had his novitiate along with his classmates. Fr. George Kanatt MCBS has been the Novice Master. He made religious profession on 19th May 1959. He did his second year of Minor Seminary at Lisieux Ashram, Athirampuzha.

Bro. Mathew Maleparampil had been among the pioneering seminarians at MCBS Study House, Aluva. He had his study of Philosophy at Carmelgiri Seminary and Theology at Mangalapuzha Seminary. He was ordained as priest on 16th

December 1967 by Archbishop Joseph Parekkattil of Ernakulam. Fr. Mathew Maleparampil’s first appointment was as the procurator of Lisieux Ashram. After one year he was asked to serve, one year each, at Pious Mount Ashram, Nellikutty and Sophia Ashram, Chathencottunada, one after the other. During 1970 – 75 he served at Podimattam, Kanjirapally, first as procurator and then as superior. Then he was transferred to Karimpany Ashram as a member. During 1976 – 82 he served as superior at Lisieux Ashram, Athirampuzha. Fr. Mathew has been a calm and peaceful person. He has been very kind and polite to everyone, and the community would be happy with him and his service.

In 1982 Fr. Mathew Maleparampil was transferred to Shimoga in Karnataka as the Procurator of Shimoga Mission. As procurator he had to manage the finances and accounts, and oversee the developmental works in the mission stations. He carried on his responsibilities as best as he could till 1987. Everyone in the Mission was happy with him. In 1987 he was entrusted with the task of taking care the Agricultural Farm at Hosur, not very far from Shimoga town. He spent rest of his life working very hard to convert it into an income generating farm. He has been rather successful in his effort.

Early on Fr. Mathew Maleparampil had been suffering from certain health issues caused by asthma. As he grew older, the situation got worse and he was having regular check-up and required treatment. But he has been always very careful not to be a burden to anybody. On 25th January 2005 he had a hospital visit for regular check-up. But the doctor diagnosed symptoms of a mild heart attack and admitted him in the hospital for observation and treatment. Anyhow, the Mission Superior had a prayer service in the hospital room, and administered the Sacrament of Anointing. A few hours later on 26th January 2006, Fr. Mathew Maleparampil breathed his last in the Lord. His body was brought to the chapel in the Mission Headquarters so that the people, religious sisters and priests could visit, pray for and pay tribute to him.

The funeral service for Fr. Mathew Maleparampil was on 29th January 2005 at the Minor Seminary, Pariyaram, in Kannur district, Kerala. Archbishop George Valiamattam of Thalasseri  officiated the functions, and the superior general, provincial superiors and a large number of priests and seminarians, his friends a relatives participated in them. Fr. Thomas Pattery preached the homily during the Mass. Fr. Sebastian Parathanam, one his classmates, presented a short, but very touching eulogy. Fr. Mathew Maleparmpil’s body was buried at the newly built cemetery in the campus of the seminary.

Devotion to the Holy Eucharist, calm and quiet nature, non- complaining approach, obedience, love for the congregation etc. are a few of his virtues that are to be appreciated and emulated.

16-12-1967 ന് അഭിവദ്യ ജോസഫ് പാറേക്കാട്ടിൽ പിതാവിൽ നിന്നു പൗരോഹിത്യം സ്വീകരിച്ചു.

കർമ്മമണ്ഡലങ്ങൾ

പ്രഥമ ശുശ്രൂഷാരംഗം ലിസ്യു മൈനർ സെമിനാരിയായിരുന്നു. പിന്നീട് ചെമ്പേരി, ചാത്തൻകോട്ടുനട എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ ശുശ്രൂഷ നിർവ്വഹിച്ചു.

1970- 1975 കാലഘട്ടങ്ങളിൽ കാഞ്ഞിരപ്പള്ളിയിലുള്ള നവസന്യാസ ഭവനത്തിൽ പ്രോകുറേറ്റർ, സുപ്പീരിയർ എന്നി തക്സികകളിൽ ജോലി നിർവ്വഹിച്ചു. കരിമ്പാനി ആശ്രമമായിരുന്നു അടുത്ത പ്രവർത്തനമേഖല.

1976 മുതൽ 1982 വരെ അതിരമ്പുഴ ആശ്രമത്തിൽ നേതൃത്വ ശുശ്രൂഷ നിറവേറ്റിയ മാത്യു അച്ചൻ ഷിമോഗ മിഷൻ ആരംഭിച്ചപ്പോൾ അതിൻ്റെ പ്രോകുറേറ്ററായി. ഹൊസൂറിലുള്ള മത്തേവൂസ് ഫാമായിരുന്നു അടുത്ത കർമ്മരംഗം.

ശാന്തതയും പക്വതയും നിറഞ്ഞ പെരുമാറ്റ രീതിയിൽ ദിവ്യകാരുണ്യ നാഥൻ്റെ കരുണയുടെ മുഖം മറ്റുള്ളവരിൽ കണ്ടെത്തിയ മത്തായി അച്ചൻ നിശബ്ദ സേവനത്തിലൂടെ തന്നെ സമീപിച്ച എല്ലാവർക്കും ആശ്വാസത്തിൻ്റെ കുളിർതെന്നൽ സമ്മാനിച്ചു.

ആർക്കും തൻ്റെ ജീവിതം ഭാരമാകരെതെന്നു മാത്യു അച്ചനു നിർബന്ധമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. രോഗാവസ്ഥയിലും പ്രശാന്തത കൈവെടിയാതിരുന്ന അച്ചൻ്റെ ജനുവരി 26-ാം തീയതി ദൈവഭവനത്തിലേക്ക് യാത്രയായി.

ദിവ്യകാരുണ്യഭക്തി, ശാന്ത സ്വഭാവം, മിതസംസാരം, പരാതി ഇല്ലാത്ത ജീവിതം, അനുസരണം , സഭാ സ്നേഹം, സാന്ത്വനമേകുന്ന സ്വഭാവം, ത്യാഗസന്നദ്ധത എന്നിവ മത്തായി അച്ചൻ്റെ ജീവിതത്തിൽ നിന്നു നാം അടർത്തിമാറ്റേണ്ട സുകൃതങ്ങളാണ്.
