Abraham Moloparambil was born on 22nd January 1936 at Poovarany in the Diocese of Pala. His parents were Varkey and Annamma Parekkattil-Moloparabil, from Sacred Heart parish, Poovarany. He was the youngest of the eight siblings, three brothers – Kunjukutty, Thommachen and Ousepachen, and four sisters – Elikutty, Kunjannamma, Thresiamma and Mammikutty. He was dearly called Avarachen.

After his high school studies he started his intermediate studies at St. Thomas College, Pala. During those years he earnestly prayed over his long cherished desire to become a priest, and joined the MCBS on 13th June 1956. He was sent to the diocesan minor seminary at Parel for study and formation. During 1958-59 he made his novitiate. Fr. George Kanatt has been the Novice Master. He made his Religious Profession on 19th May 1959. Then he was sent to St. Joseph’s Seminary, Mangalore, for his major seminary study and formation. Those years were very significant for him and had great impact on his life and ministry. He was ordained as priest on 2nd February 1966 by Bishop Sebastian Vayalil of Pala.

Fr. Abraham Moloparambil’s first appointment was as procurator at the Mother House where the novitiate has been functioning then. In 1967 he was transferred to the Minor Seminary, Lisieux Ashram, as the procurator and spiritual director. After one year he was appointed as procurator at MCBS Study House, Karukunnu. From May 1970 to May 1976 he rendered his service as the Rector of the Minor Seminary at the Mother House. Simultaneously he has been the superior of the house and also the parish priest of Little Flower Parish, Kaduvakulam. During that time he took the initiative to construct a new church and the shrine for the parish. In June 1976 he was asked to render service in the Mission Diocese of Satna, in Madhya Pradesh.

On 8th December 1977, Fr. Moloparambil was elected as the Superior General of the MCBS for a term of six years.
As the superior general, Fr. Moloparambil’s first effort was to obtain a mission territory for the MCBS. He has been well aware of the efforts of his predecessor for obtaining a mission, comprising of three civil districts, bordering to Satna Diocese, which, unfortunately, failed to materialise. Fr. Moloparambil’s efforts were successful, and Shimoga Mission was officially inaugurated on 24th June 1978. All through the administration his primary concern has been the growth and progress of the new Mission. His next undertaking was the construction of the building for the Generalate at Chunangamvely. The foundation stone was laid on 12th August 1978. The construction of the ground floor and the chapel was completed, and the new Generalate was inaugurated on 26th January 1981. In May 1983, under the leadership Fr. Moloparambil, the MCBS celebrated the Golden Jubilee of the founding of the Congregation.

On 8th December 1983, Fr. Abraham Moloparambil was elected as the Superior General of the MCBS for a second term of six years. In 1984 an expert committee was appointed to make an in-depth study on the Founder/s and the specific Charism of the MCBS. Having examined all the available documents in the archives, both of the Congregation and of the Archdiocese of Changanassery, the committee arrived at the conclusion: “In God’s plan, while the idea of a new religious congregation took shape originally in Fr. Mathew Alakalam, his companion Fr. Joseph Paredom co-operated with him and nurtured it like a tender plant.” His next effort was to revise and renew the Constitution of the MCBS. For this purpose he, along with his council, constituted an elaborate committee. The committee, after prolonged and careful study and prayerful reflection on the charism, nature, spirit, tradition and the founders of the congregation and needs of the time, drafted the text, which was given to all the members for their study and suggestions. The evaluation and suggestions of the members called for a revision of the text. The revised text was submitted to the General Synaxis, which had a number of sittings during 1987-89, for its approval. The text was then forwarded to all the ordinaries, in whose territories the members of the MCBS were doing ministry then, for their approval. Finally, the new Constitution and Directory of the MCBS was promulgated on 25th May 1989. Another remarkable achievement of his administration has been the elevation of the MCBS to the Pontifical status, on 2nd December 1989, and the approval of the Constitution and Directory from Rome, for an experimental period of seven years. It was during his administration that the Sannidhana Ashram, Illithode, was established. The land for Karunya Nivas, Thonichal was purchased during his administration.

Fr. Abraham Moloparambil rendered his service as Novice Master during 1990-95 at Podimattam. He served as the Regional Superior of MCBS Emmaus Region during 1995-97. Then he served as the Rector of the Theology Study House, Kaduvakulam, for three years. During 2000-2002 he rendered his service as Novice Master at Podimattam for a second time. In 2002 he was elected as the Vicar Provincial of the Emmaus Province. He also served as the administrator of the Provincial House. In 2005 he was appointed as the Rector of MCBS Study House, Karukunnu. After one year he was transferred to Sanathana Major Seminary, Thamrassery and appointed as the spiritual director. After two year he became ill, and was transferred to Emmaus provincial house. Gradually he recovered and became active in the community. He has been in charge of the Perpetual Adoration Chapel. Hence he changed his residence to the Mother House. He has been very attentive to the spiritual needs of the people who visited the adoration chapel and improving the attendance. During 2012-13 he has been also in charge of the college-going seminarians who were residing at the Mother House. He has had a few health issues and has been under medication. But he always appeared to be happy and joyful. By March 2020 the adoration chapel was closed due to the spread of Covid-19 pandemic. But he would spend long hours before the Eucharistic Lord.

On 14th September 2020, towards the end of his Mass, Fr. Abraham Moloparambil fainted and fell. He was immediately hospitalized, and was diagnosed of having cerebral haemorrhage. On the following day he underwent a surgery which appeared to be successful. Before the surgery he was administered the sacrament of anointing. Six hours after the surgery his condition became worse as another haemorrhage developed, and his situation remained very critical during next two days. Fr. Abraham Moloparambil breathed his last in the Lord, at 7:45 a.m. on 18th September 2020.
The funeral service for Fr. Abraham Moloparambil was on 21st September 2020 at the Emmaus Provincial House. The service was conducted as per Covid 19 protocol of the government. The first part of the service was at 7 a.m. and it was officiated by the provincial superior and assisted by his councillors. The casket was, then, carried in procession to the Little Flower parish church, Kaduvakulam. The mortal remains were kept in the church till 2 p.m., so that priests, religious, laity, relatives and friends could visit, pay homage to and pray for Fr. Abraham. The second part of the service was officiated by the Superior General and assisted by the former superior generals. This was followed by the concelebrated Holy Mass, presided over by Archbishop Joseph Perumthottam of Changanassery, and assisted by the superior general, provincial superiors, Fr. Jose Moloparambil and a number of other priests. Fr. Jose Peedikaparambil MCBS preached a very touching homily, highlighting the life and ministry of Fr. Moloparambil. Cardinal George Alenchery, the Major Archbishop, officiated the concluding part of the service. The Provincial Superior thanked every one who attended the service.
Love and devotion to the holy Eucharist, spirit of prayer, love for priesthood religious life, hardworking, love for the community, exemplary life etc. are a few of Fr. Moloparambil’s virtues that are to be appreciated and emulated.

1990- 1995, 2000 – 2002 ഈ വർഷങ്ങളിൽ നവ സന്യാസ ഗുരുവായി കാഞ്ഞിരപ്പള്ളിയിൽ ശുശ്രൂഷ ചെയ്തു.

ബലിപീഠത്തെ ജീവിതത്തിൻ്റെ കേന്ദ്ര ബിന്ദുവാക്കിയ അച്ചൻ തല ചായ്ച്ചതും ബലിപീഠത്തിലായി എന്നതിൽ ഒട്ടും
യാദൃശ്ചികതയില്ല.പൗരോഹിത്യത്തെ അങ്ങയറ്റം സ്നേഹിച്ചിരുന്ന അച്ചൻ തൻ്റെ ജീവിതത്തിലുടനീളം മംഗലാപുരം സെൻ്റ് ജോസഫ് സെമിനാരിയിലെ റെക്ടറച്ചൻ ഫാ. റോക്കി SJ പറഞ്ഞ വാക്കുകൾ എന്നു ഹൃദയത്തിൽ സൂക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്നു.: ” ഓരോ ദിവ്യബലിയും വേണ്ടത്ര സമയമെടുത്ത് പ്രാർത്ഥനയുടെ അർത്ഥം നന്നായി മനസ്സിലാക്കി അർപ്പിക്കണം. ഓരോ കുർബാനയും ഒരു പുത്തൻ കുർബാന ആയിരിക്കണം. അവസാന ബലി എന്നു കരുതി അർപ്പിക്കണം” (39) .

മോളോപ്പറമ്പിലച്ചൻ അജപാലന ശുശ്രൂഷയെ അങ്ങയറ്റം സ്നേഹിച്ചിരുന്നു. വിശുദ്ധ ബലിപീഠവും കുമ്പസാരക്കൂടുമായിരുന്നു അച്ചൻ്റെ പ്രധാന ശുശ്രൂഷാ മേഖലകൾ. ദിവ്യകാരുണ്യ മിഷനറി സഭ കേരള സഭയ്ക്കു സമ്മാനിച്ച ഏറ്റവും ഉത്തമനായ ഒരു അജപാലകരിൽ ഒരുവനായിരുന്നു ഈ സന്യാസ വൈദീകൻ

മണിക്കൂറുകൾ വിശുദ്ധ കുമ്പസാരത്തിനായി mcbs മാതൃഭവനത്തിൽ സദാ സംലഭ്യനായിരുന്ന മോളോപ്പറമ്പിലച്ചൻ ആർസിലെ വികാരി പോലെ കടുവാക്കുളം നിവാസികളുടെ പ്രിയ വികാരിയായിരുന്നു.
മോളോപ്പറമ്പിലച്ചൻ്റെ ആത്മകഥയ്ക്ക് ” ദൈവം കൂടെ നടന്നപ്പോൾ ” അവതാരിക എഴുതിയ പാലാ രൂപതാ മെത്രാൻ അഭിവന്ദ്യ മാർ ജോസഫ് കല്ലറങ്ങാട്ട് ബനഡിക്ട് പാപ്പയുടെ “ദൈവം സ്നേഹമാകുന്നു” എന്ന ചാക്രിക ലേഖനം പരാമർശിച്ചു കൊണ്ട് അബ്രാഹമച്ചനെപ്പറ്റി ഇങ്ങനെ കുറിച്ചു. ” ദൈവത്തിലേക്ക് അടുത്തവർ മനുഷ്യരിൽ നിന്നകലുന്നില്ല. പിന്നെയോ അവർ യഥാർത്ഥത്തിൽ മനുഷ്യരോട് അടുത്തു വരുന്നു. ദൈവത്തിൻ്റെ പ്രവർത്തനം ജീവിതത്തിൽ മനസ്സിലാക്കിയ അച്ചൻ മറ്റുള്ളവരിലേക്ക് പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് പരിശീലനം നേടുന്നവരിലേക്ക് അതു പകരാൻ എന്നും തീഷ്ണത കാണിക്കുന്നു.”

നീണ്ട 12 വർഷക്കാലം സഭയുടെ സുപ്പീരയർ ജനറാളായിരുന്ന മോളോപ്പറമ്പിലച്ചൻ ആ കാലഘട്ടത്തെപ്പറ്റി തൻ്റെ ആത്മകഥയിൽ ഇപ്രകാരം കുറിക്കുന്നു. : “സുപ്പീരിയർ ജനറൽ എന്ന നിലയിലുള്ള എൻറ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളെപ്പറ്റി ഓർക്കുമ്പോൾ നല്ലവനായ ദൈവം വളരെ അധികം കാര്യങ്ങൾ ചെയ്യാൻ എന്നെ ഉപകരണമാക്കി എന്നു വിശ്വസിക്കാനാണ് ഇഷ്ടം…. ദൈവാനുഗ്രഹവും സഭാംഗങ്ങളുടെ സഹകരണവും ഒന്നും ചേർന്നപ്പോൾ ഏറെ മുന്നേറ്റങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടായി.” (95)

“സഭയ്ക്ക് ആവശ്യമുള്ളതും എനിക്ക് ചെയ്യാൻ സാധിക്കുന്ന ഏതു ജോലിയും ഞാൻ ചെയ്യാം.” (115) ഉത്തരവാദിത്വങ്ങൾ സ്വീകരിക്കുന്നതിൽ മോളോപ്പറമ്പിലച്ചൻ സ്വീകരിച്ച നയം ഇപ്രകാരമായിരുന്നു .

നവ സന്യാസികളോട് ഗുരവച്ചൻ എന്ന നിലയിൽ “ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ നോവിസ് മാസ്റ്റർ ആണ്. നിങ്ങളെ സഹായിക്കലാണ് എൻ്റെ ജോലി. അല്ലാതെ തെറ്റുകൾ കണ്ടു പിടിച്ച് നിങ്ങളെ പറഞ്ഞു വിടലല്ല. വിളിയുടെ തടസ്സങ്ങൾ മാറ്റി വിളിയിൽ വളർത്താനാണ് ശ്രമിക്കുന്നത്. ഏതു സമയത്തും നിങ്ങൾക്ക് എൻ്റെ അടുത്തു വരാം. എന്തു കാര്യവും തുറന്നു പറയാം നിങ്ങൾ ഭയപ്പെടേണ്ടതില്ല.” (117) എന്നെപ്പോഴും ഞങ്ങളെ ഓർമ്മപ്പെടുത്തിയിരുന്നു.

തലമുറകളെ ബന്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്ന കണ്ണിയായിരുന്നു മോളോപ്പറമ്പിലച്ചൻ. കൊച്ചു കുട്ടികൾ തുടങ്ങി വാർദ്ധ്യ ക്യത്തിലെത്തിയവരെ വരെ കയ്യിലെടുക്കാൻ അധാസാരണമായ സംവേദന ശേഷിയുള്ള വ്യക്തിയായിരുന്നു അബ്രാഹമച്ചൻ.

വിശുദ്ധ കുർബാനയുടെ സമൃദ്ധി ജീവിതത്തിൽ പകർന്നാടിയ ഒരു വ്യക്തിയായിരുന്നു മോളോപ്പറമ്പിലച്ചൻ. താൻ ആയിരിക്കുന്ന ആ ശ്രമങ്ങളിലും ബന്ധപ്പെടുന്ന വ്യക്തികളിലും ആ സമൃദ്ധി അദ്ദേഹം പകർന്നു നൽകി. അതിഥി സൽകാരത്തിലും, ആശ്രമങ്ങളിലെ ജോലിക്കാരുടെ ക്ഷേമം ഉറപ്പു വരുത്തുന്നതിലും ഒരു പുതിയ സംസ്കാരം അച്ചൻ വെട്ടി തുറന്നു. അച്ചനെക്കുറിച്ചു കുറ്റം പറയുന്ന ഒരു ആശ്രമ ശുശ്രൂഷകനെയെങ്കിലും കാണാൻ കഴിയുമോ എന്നു സംശയമാണ്. അവരോടു നയപരമായി ഇടപെഴകുവാനുള്ള അച്ചൻ്റെ കഴിവ് പുതു തലമുറ ആർജ്ജിച്ചെടുക്കേണ്ട ഒരു സുകൃതമാണ്.
