Then he was appointed as Parish Priest at Koovappally St. Joseph’s Church where he served for eight years. In the year 2000 he ended his ministry in the diocese and returned to the community. During his ministry in the parishes he has been very particular to contribute substantial amounts annually to the Seminarians’ Fund of the congregation.

The funeral service for Fr. George Maliyil was on 22nd September 2014 at the Emmaus Provincial House, Kaduvakulam. Earlier Bishop Mathew Arackel of Kanjirappally and other dignitaries had visited, payed homage to and prayed for Fr. Maliyil. The first part of the service was officiated by the Provincial Superior and assisted by his councillors and the second part was officiated by the Superior General and assisted by the Assistant Provincial of Zion Province and Fr. Thomas Maliyil. The third part of the service commenced with the concelebrated Holy Mass, presided over by Bishop Joseph Arumachadeth of Bhadravathi, assisted by the Superior General, Provincial Superiors and a good many priests, both from the congregation and dioceses, and attended by many religious sisters, laity, friends and relatives.
