Prayer to the Holy Trinity

Glory be to the Father, Who by His almighty power and love created me, making me in the image and likeness of God.

Glory be to the Son, Who by His Precious Blood delivered me from hell, and opened for me the gates of heaven.

Glory be to the Holy Spirit, Who has sanctified me in the sacrament of Baptism, and continues to sanctify me by the graces I receive daily from His bounty.

Glory be to the Three adorable Persons of the Holy Trinity, now and forever.

Amen.

The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity: The Central Mystery of Our Faith

The Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, one of the most profound and beautiful feasts of the liturgical year. The mystery of the Blessed Trinity—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—is the central truth of the Christian faith. It reveals the inner life of God Himself: one God in three Divine Persons, equal in majesty, glory, and eternity. Although this mystery surpasses human understanding, it has been lovingly revealed by God so that we may share in His divine life.

The Holy Trinity is the source of all creation, redemption, and sanctification. The Father created us out of love, the Son redeemed us through His life, death, and resurrection, and the Holy Spirit continues to sanctify and guide the Church. Every grace we receive comes from the Blessed Trinity, and every prayer we offer ultimately leads us into communion with the Triune God.

The Sacred Liturgy constantly invites us into a loving relationship with each of the Three Divine Persons. We begin and end our prayers in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. In the Holy Eucharist, we worship the Father through the Son in the unity of the Holy Spirit. The entire Christian life is, therefore, a journey into deeper communion with the Blessed Trinity.

This feast was established for the Latin Church by Pope John XXII and is celebrated on the Sunday following Pentecost. The placement of this feast is significant. After commemorating the great mysteries of our salvation—the Incarnation, Passion, Death, Resurrection, Ascension of Christ, and the coming of the Holy Spirit—the Church directs our attention to the ultimate source and fulfillment of all these mysteries: the Triune God.

The Solemnity of the Holy Trinity reminds us that God is not solitude but an eternal communion of love. We are created in the image of this divine communion and are called to live lives marked by love, unity, self-giving, and mutual respect. The more we grow in love, the more we reflect the life of the Trinity within us.

On this beautiful feast, let us contemplate with wonder and gratitude the mystery of the God who has revealed Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Let us renew our faith in the Triune God and strive to live each day in His presence.

Today, throughout the day, let us lovingly and prayerfully repeat the Church’s ancient doxology:

“Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.”

May the Blessed Trinity dwell in our hearts, guide our lives, and lead us to the fullness of eternal communion with God.
