July 22 – Feast of St Mary Magdalene the Apostle of Apostles
The model of repentance, the heavenly patroness against sexual temptations
Unlike other saints, the Feast of Mary Magdalene is celebrated in the Church with the same significance as the Feast of the Apostles. This feast is also known as the most mysterious feast in the church. No one knows where she is buried. Legend has it that she spent her last days in a cave in Provence, France, where she died. Mary Magdalene experienced the depths of Christ’s love. No one else who has experienced it like her can be found in Scripture. Perhaps that is why the Lord appeared to her for the first time after his resurrection. St. Mary Magdalene understood the truth of God’s love for mankind and spent her entire life witnessing to that love. Jesus commissioned Mary Magdalene to announce his resurrection to his disciples. Based on this, in 2017, Pope Francis officially added her feast as one of the major feasts of the Church, calling her the “Apostle of the Apostles”. In the Gospel of St. Luke, Magdalena refers to Mary as the sinful woman who washed and kissed Jesus’ feet, and in the Gospel of John as the sister of St. Martha and St. Lazarus of Bethany. These two women found in the Scriptures are one and the same. That is, St. Gregory the Great, the doctor of church, testifies that Mary Magdalene came from Bethany and became a disciple of Jesus, repenting after leading a sinful life.

ജൂലൈ 22 – അപ്പോസ്തോലന്മാരുടെ അപ്പോസ്തോലയായ വിശുദ്ധ മഗ്ദലേന മറിയത്തിന്റെ തിരുനാൾ
അനുതാപത്തിന്റെ മാതൃക, ലൈംഗീക പ്രലോഭനങ്ങൾക്കെതിരായ സ്വർഗ്ഗീയ മദ്ധ്യസ്ഥ
മറ്റ് വിശുദ്ധരിൽ നിന്നും വ്യത്യസ്തമായി തിരുസഭയിൽ ശ്ലീഹന്മാരുടെ തിരുനാളിന്റെ പ്രാധാന്യത്തോടെ തന്നെയാണ് മഗ്ദലേന മറിയത്തിന്റെ തിരുനാളും ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നത്. കാരണം അവൾ യേശുവിന്റെ പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട ശിഷ്യയായിരുന്നു എന്നത് കൊണ്ട് തന്നെ. ഈ തിരുനാൾ സഭയിലെ ഏറ്റവും നിഗൂഢമായ തിരുനാൾ എന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. അവളെ എവിടെയാണ് അടക്കം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നതെന്ന് ആർക്കും അറിയില്ല. തന്റെ അവസാന കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ ഫ്രാൻസിലെ പ്രോവെൻസിലെ ഒരു ഗുഹയിൽ ചിലവഴിക്കുകയും അവിടെ വച്ചു മരണപെടുകയുമുണ്ടായി എന്നാണ് ഐതീഹ്യങ്ങൾ പറയുന്നത്. ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ സ്നേഹത്തിന്റെ ആഴം അനുഭവിച്ചറിഞ്ഞവളാണ് മഗ്ദലേന മറിയം. അവളെ പോലെ അതനുഭവിച്ച മറ്റൊരേയും വിശുദ്ധ ഗ്രന്ഥത്തിൽ കണ്ടെത്താൻ സാധിക്കുകയില്ല. ഒരുപക്ഷേ അതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെയാവും ഉത്ഥാന ശേഷം ആദ്യമായി അവൾക്ക് തന്നെ കർത്താവ് പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടത്. മനുഷ്യരോടുള്ള ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സ്നേഹത്തിന്റെ സത്യത്തെ ഗ്രഹിക്കുകയും, ആ സ്നേഹത്തിനു സാക്ഷ്യം വഹിക്കുവാന്‍ തന്റെ ജീവിതം മുഴുവനും ചിലവഴിച്ചവളുമാണ് വിശുദ്ധ മഗ്ദലന മറിയം. തന്റെ ഉത്ഥാനം ശിഷ്യഗണത്തെ അറിയിക്കുവാൻ ഈശോ നിയോഗിച്ചത് മഗ്ദലേന മറിയത്തെയായിരുന്നു. ഇതിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിലാണ് 2017 ൽ പരിശുദ്ധ പിതാവ് ഫ്രാൻസിസ് പാപ്പ അവളെ ‘അപ്പോസ്തോലന്മാരുടെ അപ്പോസ്തോല’ എന്ന് വിശേഷിപ്പിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് അവളുടെ തിരുനാൾ സഭയുടെ പ്രധാന തിരുനാളുകളുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിൽ ഔദ്യോഗികമായി ചേർത്തത്. വിശുദ്ധ ലൂക്കായുടെ സുവിശേഷത്തിൽ യേശുവിന്റെ പാദം കഴുകി ചുംബിച്ച പാപിനിയായ സ്ത്രീയായിട്ടും, യോഹന്നാന്റെ സുവിശേഷത്തിൽ ബെഥാനിയായിലെ വിശുദ്ധ മാർത്തയുടെയും വിശുദ്ധ ലാസറിന്റെയും സഹോദരിയായിട്ടുമാണ് മഗ്ദലേന മറിയത്തെ പരാമർശിക്കുന്നത്. വിശുദ്ധ ലിഖിതങ്ങളില്‍ കാണുന്ന ഈ രണ്ട് സ്ത്രീകളും ഒരാള്‍ തന്നെയാണ്. അതായത്, ബഥാനിയായില്‍ നിന്നും വരികയും പാപപങ്കിലമായ ജീവിതം നയിച്ചതിനു ശേഷം അനുതാപതോടെ യേശുവിന്റെ ശിഷ്യയുമായി തീര്‍ന്ന മഗ്ദലന മറിയം ഒന്ന്‍ തന്നെയാണെന്നാണ് വേദപാരംഗതനായ മഹാനായ വിശുദ്ധ ഗ്രിഗറി സാക്ഷ്യപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു.
