Be the Church You Want to See in the World

Daniel Seabaugh

Gandhi is often credited with saying, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” People debate whether or not he actually said it, but either way, it’s a great quote.

Although Gandhi was not a Christian, what would happen if the Church adopted (and adapted) the quote?

I can think of several things I’d love to see change within the Church. Keeping with the spirit of the quote, however, I know that change has to begin with me and my family.

So without attempting to lay a burden on someone else, here are some things I intend to do over the next year to be the Church I want to see in the world.

1. I will not allow theological differences to keep me from serving my local church and loving my brothers and sisters in Christ.

The global church has been dividing over nuanced theological issues for…

Wrapping Decorations

A Little of Everything

Something I observed and learned from my grandma was covering paintings to match the season. If you have paintings hanging up in your house, and you don’t necessarily have something to switch them out with when switching up your decorations, covering them may be the way to go.

I usually do this around Christmas time, to cover up any summer themed paintings, to go with all the holiday decorations. The easiest thing I find to do, is find a pretty wrapping paper, flip the canvas face down on the wrapping paper, trim the paper and tape it to the back of the frame. Then it is ready to be hung back up with a new look!

Another similar method would be using tissue paper. Depending on the content of the painting, you may need a few sheets/layers of tissue paper to make sure the paintings picture doesn’t come through. Use…

Foiling Christmas Cards

Strangely Creative

I hope you had a great weekend! Christmas is fast approaching so I’m focusing on making as many Christmas cards as I can. Today I’m playing with the Visible Image and Therm o Web Foil to create a pretty card.

It is a little hard to take a good picture with all this beautiful shine. I started out my creating a blue watercolor wash on my background. As I get closer to the bottom of the card it becomes lighter which gives the background a snowy feeling.

Once my background was dry, I used a brayer with the Heidi Swapp Minc Toner Ink to apply ink to the Visible Image Christmas Eve and Classic Christmas stamps. I then used the Therm O Web Green and Red foil and ran it through my Minc Foil machine.

I love how quick and simple it was to make this card. The toner ink…

Letters from Santa at Lapland Letters

SpookyMrsGreen

Have you sent your letters to Santa Claus yet? I had my annual meeting with the elves earlier in November, and my daughters were excited to receive a very prompt reply. They each received a personal letter from Santa, complete with activity packs, reindeer food and even cookie mix. We must bake cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve, which I think is a lovely idea and could become a new family tradition.

Our letters came from Lapland Letters, and there is a wonderful selection available on the website that can be signed from Santa Claus or Father Christmas depending on your preference. Each letter is personalised for the individual child, and my elder daughter was immensely proud to receive praise for how well she trained our dog during lockdown this year. My younger daughter received a letter to say that she coped very well with the lockdown and the…
