Why Should We Be Holy?

StopAndPrayTV

1 Peter 1:15, 16

We should be holy because God wants us to be holy. He commands it. He says, “As He which has called you is holy, so be you holy in all manner of conversation; because it is written, ‘Be you holy; for I am holy'” (1 Pet. 1:15, 16). God is in earnest about this. It is God’s will and it cannot be evaded. Just as a man wants his watch to keep perfect time, his work to be accurate, wants his friends to be steadfast, his children to be obedient, his wife to be faithful, so God wants us to be holy.

We should be holy because Jesus died to make us holy. He wants a holy people. For this He prayed. “Sanctify them through your truth” (John 17:17). For this He died: “Who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity…

CHRISTMAS

Vulcano – Shutterstock

Fr. Michael Rennier-published on 11/29/20

It’s a season of waiting but a call to live fully with joy in the present moment.

With the arrival of Advent, we’re at the beginning of the end of the calendar year 2020. The prevailing sentiment seems to begood riddance, and the consensus is that we’re all ready for a fresh start. I have to admit, I’ve had a fine year personally, and am always suspicious of how each year, as we are living it, is always loudly proclaimed to be the worst ever. I’ve lived 39 trips around the sun now and have enjoyed them all. However, I do share in the hopeful sentiment that, whatever the next year brings, it will be better than the last.

Contemplating letting 2020 go is a bittersweet thought. My children will never be this age again. The skies will never quite…

12 Days of Christmas: Day 1 – Little Saints Nativity Playset

The Catholic Man Reviews

The Catholic Man Reviews is once again returning this Christmas season with the annual 12 Days of Christmas Gifts series, and I (as in Ivy) get to kick off this year’s series.  We are starting probably as Christmassy as it can get: a nativity set (this one was provided to us by Legacy Icons).

This nativity set from Little Saints is designed with children in mind – shaped like classic wooden building blocks, simple and vibrant illustrations, and short prayers on the back of the human figures, giving a very brief summary on what each person did in relation to the coming of Jesus. Not only that, it is technically a playset.

The set came packaged in a burlap bag. It’s a nice way to keep the set together; I will definitely be storing the set in the bag between Christmas seasons. I think it adds really nicely to…

Bridging the Gap

A DOSE OF GOD TODAY

November 30, 2020 – Feast of St Andrew, Apostle

Click here for the readings (https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/113020.cfm)

Homily

We celebrate today the Feast of St. Andrew, one of the original 12 apostles. We know very little of him. According to our tradition, Andrew became the first bishop in the community of Constantinople until he was martyred through crucifixion on an X-shape cross. The gospels tell us also that he was the brother of Peter. They were from Bethsaida, a town near the Sea of Galilee. In John’s Gospel, we were told that Andrew was a disciple of John the Baptist at first. In the same gospel, we found that Andrew had actually brought Peter to Jesus, telling his brother, “We have found the Messiah!” (Jn 1:35-42). It was also Andrew who called the attention of Jesus about the boy with 5 loaves and 2 fish (Jn 6:8-9). Again…

The Feast of St. Andrew ~ The Very Rev. Lady Sherwood, OPI

The Order of Preachers, Independent

Reading 1: ROM 10:9-18

Responsorial Psalm: PS19:8, 9, 10, 11

Gospel: MT 4:18-22

Liturgical colour: Red.

Today we come together to celebrate the feast day of St. Andrew the Apostle. Andrew was Jesus’ very first disciple.

Let us reflect on one of the qualities of Andrew: that quality being his of∙his readiness to respond to our Lord Jesus Christ’s call to follow him.

We hear Andrew’s call story today in today’s Holy Gospel reading of MT 4:18=22. As Jesus walks along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he notices two brothers, Simon Peter & Andrew, who were engrossed in their daily work of fishing. As Andrew & Peter cast their nets into the sea, Jesus calls to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men!”

This call must have caught the brothers’ attention. – They must’ve wondered what Jesus could possibly have meant by saying, to…

A DEATH OF A NATION THROUGH POLITICAL CORRECTNESS!!

TRUMPETER'S CALL

Why would I celebrate the death of a beautiful country filled with those who cared about each other, cared about what they had, cared about what laid ahead in the future? They used common sense, personal intelligence and a belief that we all should look after each other using common sense. Why would I celebrate the death of common sense, brought about, so those who existed in countries who don’t know caring and sharing? Could bring their beliefs to my homeland (Canada or U.S.A.) to destroy what is great, by demanding ( under the protection of the country’s laws) to have what they believe is their right.

Why would I celebrate the demise of proud nations filled with people who cared, who found, and built country’s the World wanted to be a part of? Why would I celebrate the death of North America, I knew as a young man and…

7 Steps To Get Into The Writing Mindset

Writing about...Writing

How does your mind look like when you try to write something? In which state do you write better? Are you doing anything special to get into that state?

The writing mindset is the term I use to describe the state of mind that allows you to write your best. We all have one, regardless if we are aware of how it looks like. And if we can control it, then we can write our best every time we write something, which will help us grow more and more in this writing field.

But I must warn you: some steps are not easy! They take practice, and with practice it will become a habit, so it will take less and less conscious effort to access it. If you are ready for this commitment, let’s do it!

“HIDDEN GIFTS!”

TRUMPETER'S CALL

1 Corinthians 2:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit. For theSpirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.JESUS 05

PRE-AMBLE by Robert
Fresh from learning how the path of obedience brings [gifts] blessings and disobedience brings [curses] (a’orutter destruction) upon those who follow the path of disobedience. We will find how God reveals his knowledge. How God proves the authority of the Scriptures. We will be shown who searches us and why? We will learn, as did the Apostles, whose guiding both, they [in their day] and we today while spreading the gospel. We will find God’s gifts which are hidden and will be revealed and awoken within us. Like anything which is important it usually is hidden right in plain view, we just don’t recognize it.

Help me get the Masala done, please!

TheGodminute

Every culture follows and loves its own unique cuisine.

And I Love Mine.

A Daily Devotional Featuring a Bible Verse, Thought and Prayer

Exotic Spices: Image: Courtesy of Shantanu Pal

As exotic as it is, the process of Indian Cooking is elaborate as most of the recipes involve fresh blending of spices and so many other ingredients.

My mixer does a good job of grinding and blending the Masala for seasoning. Everyday!

But, in order to get it done I must push the ON button. I think of it as a way of politely requesting the machine, ‘Dear Mixer, I need your help. Would you please get the masala done for me’?

And it obliges.

Then there are times it refuses to start, and I know I need to investigate what is wrong. Once it gets fixed, it begins to work all over again.

It’s a process I must repeat…

Paper and Pencil

Artistcoveries

It’s nice to be home again, nice to be feeling better, and oh, so very nice to have my art studio here, ready and waiting for my return.

Of course, we don’t have to have an “art studio” in order to create art, and this is one of the primary reasons why art is so enjoyable. No matter where we are — inside or outside — we need only pick up a pencil, grab a piece of paper, and we’re off!

Just about anything will do in a pinch.

People have made beautiful drawings on napkins or tissue. You can use pencils or pens, and I suspect people have also used other mark-making tools from time to time. That’s what art is at it’s most basic form. Mark-making.

And so it was that even while I was hospitalized, I was still able to enjoy art. My husband brought me the…
