July 25 – Feast of St. James the Great Apostle, Son of thunder

Patron Saint of pilgrims

St James the great is the brother of the evangelist St. John the Apostle. This saint is also known as the ‘Son of Thunder’. The saint is known in Spain as ‘El Senõr Santiago’. The first martyrdom among the apostles and the only one recorded in the Bible was that of St. James the Apostle. The Apostle James witnessed the transfiguration of Jesus and the agony of Gethsemane. This saint is the heavenly patron saint of Spain. After the Holy Land, the most famous and influential pilgrimage site in the world is the Sanctuary of St James the Great in Compostela , Spain. A network of pilgrimage routes to the church has been created in Europe. It is a cosmic path that connects many churches and places of pilgrimage. According to legend, the Blessed Virgin Mary first appeared to St. James the Apostle. Historically, in 40 AD, St. James was conducting his evangelistic work in Zaragoza, which was under the Roman province of Hispany. The saint was deeply saddened by the fact that the changes in his activities did not take place in that place and that people were reluctant to convert to Christianity. One day, while praying with his disciples on the banks of the river Ebro, the Holy Mother appeared with the angels, accompanied by angels, and spoke to the saint. The mother said that people will slowly believe in Christ and there is no doubt about it and their faith will become as strong as the pillar on which she stands. Also, the mother gave the saint a wooden figure standing on the stupa. He later built a chapel on the banks of the Ebro River where the Holy Mother appeared. Miraculously, this is a revelation made by the Blessed Virgin Mary before her assumption, that is, while she was still alive on earth. Following the success of his work, St. James and his disciples went to Jerusalem and were martyred in 44 AD during the reign of Herod Agrippa. Devotion to this saint is very great in Kerala. The historic Mundamveli Church on the coast of Ernakulam district and its festival are very famous in the name of the Santiago

ജൂലൈ 25 – ഇടിമുഴക്കത്തിന്റെ പുത്രനായ വിശുദ്ധ യാക്കോബ് ശ്ലീഹായുടെ തിരുനാൾ

തീർത്ഥാടകരുടെ സ്വർഗ്ഗീയ മധ്യസ്ഥൻ

സുവിശേഷകനായ വിശുദ്ധ യോഹന്നാൻ ശ്ലീഹായുടെ സഹോദരനാണ് ഈ വിശുദ്ധൻ. ‘ഇടിമുഴക്കത്തിന്റെ പുത്രൻ’ എന്നും ഈ വിശുദ്ധൻ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ‘ഏൽ സെനോർ സാന്റിയാഗോ’ എന്നാണ് വിശുദ്ധൻ സ്പെയിനിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. അപ്പോസ്തോലന്മാരിൽ ഏറ്റവും ആദ്യം രക്തസാക്ഷിത്വം വരിച്ചതും ബൈബിളിൽ രേഖപെടുത്തിയിട്ടുള്ളതുമായ മരണം വിശുദ്ധ യാക്കോബ്‌ ശ്ലീഹായുടേതാണ്. ഈശോയുടെ രൂപാന്തരീകരണ വേളയിലും ഗത്സമേനിലെ കഠിന വേദനയിലും യാക്കോബ് ശ്ലീഹാ സാക്ഷ്യം വഹിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. സ്പെയിനിന്റെ സ്വർഗ്ഗീയ മധ്യസ്ഥനാണ് ഈ വിശുദ്ധൻ. വിശുദ്ധ നാട് കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ ലോകത്തിൽ ഏറ്റവും പ്രസിദ്ധവും തീർത്ഥാടകപ്രവാഹവും അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്നത് വിശുദ്ധന്റെ തീർത്ഥാടനകേന്ദ്രമായ സ്പെയിനിലെ കോമ്പോസ്റ്റെല്ലായിലെ ദേവാലയമാണ്. ഈ ദേവാലയത്തിലേക്ക് വേണ്ടി ഒരു തീർത്ഥാടന പാതയുടെ ശൃംഖല തന്നെ യൂറോപ്പിൽ സൃഷ്ടിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്. നിരവധി പള്ളികളെയും തീർത്ഥാടനകേന്ദ്രങ്ങളെയും ബന്ധിപ്പിച്ചുള്ള ഒരു ബ്രഹ്മാണ്ഡ പാതയാണ് അത്. ഐതീഹ്യമനുസരിച്ചു പരിശുദ്ധ കന്യകാമറിയം ആദ്യമായി പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടത് വിശുദ്ധ യാക്കോബ് ശ്ലീഹായ്ക്കാണ്. ചരിത്രം അനുസരിച്ചു ഏ ഡി 40 ൽ വിശുദ്ധ യാക്കോബ് അക്കാലത്ത് തന്റെ സുവിശേഷ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍ നടത്തിയിരുന്നത് റോമന്‍ പ്രോവിന്‍സ് ആയ ഹിസ്പാനിയുടെ കീഴില്‍ ആയിരുന്ന സാരാഗോസയില്‍ ആയിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് അനുസരിച്ചുള്ള മാറ്റങ്ങള്‍ ആ നാട്ടില്‍ സംഭവിക്കാത്തതും ആളുകള്‍ ക്രിസ്തു മതത്തിലേക്ക് വരാന്‍ വിമുഖത കാണിച്ചും ഒക്കെ വിശുദ്ധനു അതിയായ ദുഖത്തിന് കാരണമായി തീര്‍ന്നു.ഒരു ദിവസം എബ്രോ നദിയുടെ തീരത്ത് തന്റെ ശിഷ്യന്മാരോടോത്ത് പ്രാര്‍ഥിച്ചിരുന്ന സമയത്ത് പരിശുദ്ധ അമ്മ ഉണ്ണിയേശുവിനെയും വഹിച്ചു മാലാഖമാരുടെ അകമ്പടിയോടെ പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെടുകയും വിശുദ്ധനോട് സംസാരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ആളുകള്‍ സാവധാനം ക്രിസ്തുവില്‍ വിശ്വസിക്കുമെന്നും അതില്‍ യാതൊരു വിധ സംശയവും വേണ്ട എന്നും അവരുടെ വിശ്വാസം താന്‍ നില്‍ക്കുന്ന ഈ സ്തൂപത്തിലേത് പോലെ ശക്തമായി തീരുമെന്നും അമ്മ പറഞ്ഞു. ഒപ്പം, അമ്മ സ്തൂപത്തില്‍ നില്‍ക്കുന്ന തടിയില്‍ തീര്‍ത്ത ഒരു രൂപം വിശുദ്ധനു നല്‍കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ശേഷം അദ്ദേഹം എബ്രോ നദിയുടെ തീരത്ത് പരിശുദ്ധ അമ്മ പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ട സ്ഥലത്ത് ഒരു ചാപ്പല്‍ പണിയുകയും ചെയ്തു. അത്ഭുതമെന്തെന്നാൽ പരിശുദ്ധ കന്യകാമറിയം തന്റെ സ്വർഗ്ഗാരോപണത്തിന് മുൻപ് അതായത് ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ തന്നെ നടത്തിയ പ്രത്യക്ഷീകരണമാണ് ഇത്. തന്റെ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ ഫലവത്തായതിനെ തുടർന്ന് വിശുദ്ധ യാക്കോബും ശിഷ്യരും ജെറുസലെമിലേക്ക് പോകുകയും എഡി 44 ന് ഹെരോദ് അഗ്രിപ്പയുടെ ഭരണ കാലത്ത് രക്തസാക്ഷിത്വം വഹിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. കേരളത്തിൽ ഈ വിശുദ്ധനോടുള്ള ഭക്തി വളരെ വലുതാണ്. എറണാകുളം ജില്ലയുടെ തീരപ്രദേശമായ ചരിത്രപ്രസിദ്ധമായ മുണ്ടംവേലി പള്ളിയും അവിടുത്തെ തിരുനാളും വിശുദ്ധന്റെ പേരിൽ വളരെ പ്രസിദ്ധിയാർജ്ജിച്ചവയാണ്‌.
