Rev. Fr Joseph Pottemparambil MCBS (1963-2022)

Rev. Fr. Joseph(Sunny) Pottemparambil was a compassionate pastor, zealous missionary and dedicated teacher. He had a great love for the people, he trusted in the providence of God and taught people to love God and trust him in his ways. He was a shepherd whom we can identify with what Pope Francis defines as a shepherd, “one with the smell of the sheep”. He was a Provider, a hard worker, and a man of vision and mission. He inspired many with his innate intelligence and teaching skills. He has always been a man with an indomitable spirit.

Rev. Fr. Joseph Pottemparambil was born on 31 May 1963 at Josegiri, Idukki, as the first child of Thomas and Leelamma. His parents were simple in faith upholding and imparting Christian values and love for God. He joined MCBS Minor Seminary in June 1979 and made his first profession on 02nd June 1983 and final profession on 07 May 1988. He did his Philosophy at St. Joseph Pontifical Seminary, Aluva, and Theology at St. Thomas Pontifical Seminary, Vadavathoor and was ordained by Archbishop Joseph Powathil on 28th December 1990.

Rev. Fr. Joseph Pottemparambil was appointed to St. Mary’s Church, Valook where he proved himself to be an efficient and loving pastor. He was then sent to Rajasthan Mission where he began his M.A. studies at Ajmer University and also ministered to a parish nearby. After his studies, he was sent to St. Paul’s School Sirohi, as the Principal and Vicar of the parish there. He served as the Vice-Rector and then the Rector at St. Mary’s MCBS Minor Seminary, Pariyaram for about 5 years. He continued his service in the field of education in our schools at Chathengottunada and Chunangamvely. He also worked in the Diocese of Duluth, USA, as Parochial Vicar and Pastor for about 5 years. Before his appointment in Sinai MCBS Ashram, Konnakuzhy where he breathed his last, he was a member of the Study House, Aluva for 3 years.
