Novena Prayer to OUR LADY OF GOOD REMEDY – For Those Enslaved In Any Problem

Novena Prayer to Our Lady of Good Remedy – For Those Enslaved In Any Problem | Devotion to Our Lady of Good Remedy is particularly recommended to anyone who is “enslaved” in any kind of darkness, such as poverty, chronic illness, disability, abusive relationships, or mental illness. It is also recommended to those who are caught in desperate situations of many different kinds: distress, hardship, fear, anger, confusion, spiritual dryness, and/or any other form of darkness that one feels enslaved to.

Devotion to Our Lady of Good Remedy began in the around the 12th century when Muslim fleets would capture Catholic ships and sell the people into slavery. St. John of Matha and the order he founded, the Trinitarians (Brothers of the Holy Trinity), would go into the slave markets, pay large sums of money to buy the Christian slaves, and set them free. They placed their fund-raising efforts under the patronage of Mary. With Mary’s help, the Trinitarians were able to buy and set free thousands and thousands of slaves. In order to show his gratitude and give honor to Mary for her powerful intercession, St. John of Matha gave Mary the title, “Our Lady of Good Remedy.” Under this title, Mary is often depicted as handing a bag of money to St. John of Matha. The Feast Day of Our Lady of Good Remedy is celebrated annually on October 8th.

Touch the hearts of sinners, that they may seek reconciliation and forgiveness. Bring comfort to the afflicted and the lonely; help the poor and the hopeless; aid the sick and the suffering. May they be healed in body and strengthened in spirit to endure their sufferings with patient resignation and Christian fortitude.

Hail Mary…

On my part, O loving Mother, I pledge myself to a more intensely Christian lifestyle, to a more careful observance of the laws of God, to be more conscientious in fulfilling the obligations of my state in life, and to strive to be a source of healing in this broken world of ours.

Dear Lady of Good Remedy, be ever present to me, and through thy intercession, may I enjoy health of body and peace of mind, and grow stronger in the faith and in the love of thy Son, Jesus.

Hail Mary…
