Thursday of the Eighteenth Week in Ordinary Time/ Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord/ August 06, 2020

Gospel: Matthew 17: 1-9

Friends, today we celebrate the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord Jesus. This feast commemorates three important events in the history of salvation. First, the appearance of Moses and Elijah beside the Lord Jesus upon His transfiguration which bears witness of His Divinity. Second, the presence of the Father through the cloud saying, “This is My Beloved Son in whom I am well pleased Listen to Him!” Lastly, the presence of the three apostles as witnesses of the Lord.

We remember the place of Jesus’ Transfiguration in the mountain of Thabor, which is considered by all Christians as holy, and was frequented much by pilgrims today. Thabor is ‘situated about twelve miles from the sea of Galilee, and eight miles from Nazareth. [Verbum]
