Live: Funeral ceremony for Pope Benedict XVI at St. Peter’s Basilica | DW News


Pope Francis will preside over the funeral of former Pope Benedict XVI, who died on Saturday. The ceremony, which is expected to be ‘solemn but simple’ will take place in St Peter’s Square at 0830 GMT. Official delegations from Italy and Germany will be in attendance. Afterwards, the Ultima Commendatio and the Valedictio will take place. The coffin of the Supreme Pontiff Emeritus will be taken to St. Peter’s Basilica and then to the Vatican Grottoes for burial.

  1. Italy: Sergio Mattarella, president
  2. Hungary: Katalin Novak, president
  3. Slovenia: Nataša Pirc Musar, president
  4. France: Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior
  5. Croatia: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Goran Grlić Radman; and culture minister, Ms. Nina Obuljen Koržinek
